Black Radish Syrup – Recipe

Consumption of black radish syrup is beneficial for individuals prone to respiratory infections. Asian populations, as well as Romanians, have used black radish syrup and juice mixed with honey to treat coughs and bronchitis, due to their antimicrobial and antiviral properties. Black radish syrup protects the body from sore throats, bacterial infections, cold, and flu viruses. A study showed that black radish juice can provide more protection against the E. coli bacteria than penicillin.

  • 3 black radishes
  • 400 g of honey

Choose three medium-sized black radishes. Wash them well (do not peel) and grate them. Place them in a glass jar or another glass or porcelain vessel. Add the honey (wildflower or acacia), stirring well until homogeneous.

Cover the vessel and let it macerate for 12 or 24 hours. After this interval, strain the black radish syrup through a double layer of cheesecloth and store it in dark-colored bottles, in the refrigerator, or in a cool, dark place (pantry). Take 2 tablespoons of black radish syrup, 2-3 times a day, between meals, and the remaining radish can be sliced and consumed with honey or salt.

Another easier and more practical way to prepare black radish syrup is to simply hollow out a radish and fill it with honey, as shown in the picture above. Let it macerate overnight, and in the morning, consume it with the radish.
